Tanks for 4 LNG carriers the French firm Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) will design new vessels for ADNOC Logistics and Services (ADNOC L&S). The order, placed by the Chinese shipyard Jiangnan, calls for ships with a capacity of 175,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) each, GTT will be responsible for designing the cryogenic systems that will allow the LNG to be stored during maritime transport. Jiangnan will build the four vessels for ADNOC L&S, the logistics and maritime transport division of the ADNOC Group.
GTT will design tanks for 4 LNG carriers with Mark III Flex
The four vessels will incorporate the Mark III Flex membrane containment system developed by GTT, a technology specifically designed for the storage of LNG at cryogenic temperatures, each vessel will have tanks capable of storing 175,000 cubic meters of LNG the project will thus combine Jiangnan’s shipbuilding capabilities with GTT’s French technology to equip the new ADNOC L&S fleet. The use of Mark III Flex in all four units will also allow for a common configuration in the containment systems across the series, simplifying the technological standardization of the new vessels.
Jiangnan will build four vessels for ADNOC L&S
Jiangnan Shipyard will be responsible for building the four LNG carriers ordered for ADNOC Logistics and Services. According to the planned schedule, the vessels will be delivered during the first half of 2029, the project brings together three companies with clearly differentiated roles. Jiangnan will build the ships, GTT will develop the design of their storage systems, and ADNOC L&S will integrate the new units into its maritime operations, the tanks represent one of the most important components of an LNG carrier, as they must maintain the liquefied natural gas at extremely low temperatures during storage and transport by sea.
GTT expands its involvement in LNG projects
The order comes just over a month after GTT announced another contract related to LNG shipping, on that occasion, GTT Marine was selected to implement integrated vessel performance solutions on a fleet of LNG carriers operating for Petronas. However, the contract with Jiangnan has a different scope, in this case, GTT will be directly involved in the new construction by designing the tanks and incorporating its Mark III Flex containment technology, with deliveries scheduled for the first half of 2029, the four vessels will expand ADNOC L&S’s capacity to transport LNG using ships equipped with cryogenic storage systems developed by GTT.
