Contract Boosts Pre-Salt Expansion in Brazil

Subsea7 has been awarded a strategic contract by Petrobras for the development of the Sépia 2 project, located in the Santos Basin.

This development is situated approximately 280 km from Rio de Janeiro, in water depths of 2,170 meters, positioning it within the ultra-deepwater project category.

The most relevant data is the magnitude of the SURF system: 17 wells and a complex network of umbilicals, risers, and flowlines, implying a high level of technical integration and operational control.

SURF Scope Defines Project Technical Complexity

The contract covers engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, and pre-commissioning of critical subsea infrastructure, consolidating a complete EPCI approach.

The system will include umbilicals for control and supply, risers for vertical transport, and flowlines for connection between wells and production units.

From a technical standpoint, the integration of 18 risers for gas export represents one of the most complex challenges in terms of structural design and flow assurance.

Ultra-Deep Waters Demand High-Precision Engineering

Operating at depths greater than 2,000 meters introduces significant challenges in materials, external pressure, structural fatigue, and installation dynamics.

The conditions of the Brazilian pre-salt require advanced solutions in thermal insulation, flow integrity, and hydrate mitigation, especially in gas export systems.

Efficient execution will depend on rigorous planning, prior simulation, and digital project control to minimize operational risks and schedule deviations.

Global Execution and Long-Term Strategy

Engineering and management activities will be carried out in Subsea7’s high-impact operational centers, including Brazil, France, and the United Kingdom, reflecting an integrated global execution model.

Offshore operations are scheduled to begin in 2029, allowing for an extensive phase of technical maturation, design optimization, and client alignment.

This contract reinforces Subsea7’s position in the Brazilian pre-salt and consolidates an approach based on predictable execution, local content, and strategic collaboration with Petrobras.
