Trans Thai-Malaysia (Thailand) Limited (TTM) a temporary shutdown of the Songkhla gas pipeline the measure was taken preventively after a problem was detected during a routine inspection, in order to protect the integrity of the infrastructure and ensure safe operating conditions.
TTM, a joint venture of PTT and PETRONAS on October 1, it was reported that the pipeline will remain shut down while the necessary checks are carried out to determine when it can safely resume operations.
PETRONAS takes steps to maintain gas supply
The disruption of the Songkhla gas pipeline could have effects on gas supplies to customers in Malaysia and Thailand given this scenario, PETRONAS it implemented measures to maintain continuity of supply, especially in the Malaysian market.
The company explained that it has an integrated supply network that provides it with the flexibility to manage deliveries while the pipeline is out of service. At the same time, it maintains coordination with its partners and customers to preserve system stability.
This capability allows us to respond to the interruption without depending exclusively on the flow from the affected gas pipeline.
The Songkhla gas pipeline will remain shut down for safety reasons
TTM will keep the pipeline out of operation until it can verify that the necessary conditions exist to safely resume gas transport.
So far, no details have been provided about the nature of the problem detected during the inspection, nor has a date been set for the resumption of operations. The duration of the shutdown will therefore depend on the results of the infrastructure assessments. The decision places the pipeline integrity as a primary condition before authorizing its operation again.
The integrated network supports Malaysia supply
While the verifications are underway, PETRONAS remains focused on safety, operational integrity and continuity of supply to its customers.
Its integrated network allows for the management of different supply alternatives during the Songkhla pipeline shutdown, providing flexibility to the Malaysian energy system while it is determined when service can be resumed.
In this way, PETRONAS and TTM response seeks to maintain supply stability without compromising infrastructure security.
The progress of the inspections will be crucial in defining the next operational step, until TTM confirms the safe condition of the system, the pipeline will remain out of service and attention will remain focused on PETRONAS’ ability to sustain regional supply through its integrated network.
