Gotion has begun delivering its Gotion Grid 5MWh energy storage systems to the Nefertiti and Horus projects in Egypt, an infrastructure that will become one of the largest independent energy storage facilities on the African continent, the deployment began on September 28 with the simultaneous departure of 50 heavy-duty trucks from Gotion’s facilities in Jinzhai and Nantong, China. The trucks are transporting units developed by the company for large-scale electrical storage applications, designed to improve the stability of power grids and facilitate the integration of renewable energy.

Gotion promotes energy storage systems for Egypt’s grid

The Nefertiti and Horus projects represent Egypt’s first standalone, large-capacity energy storage facilities, the infrastructure will be developed by AMEA Power, built by China Energy Engineering Group, and equipped with Gotion’s technological solutions. The integration of these systems will strengthen the stability of the Egyptian electricity grid through more efficient management of energy generation and consumption. Furthermore, it will facilitate greater integration of renewable sources such as solar and wind power, reducing the variability associated with these resources, the project aligns with Egypt’s energy transition goals for 2030, which seek to increase the share of clean sources within its electricity mix and strengthen the security of the national energy supply.

Storage technology designed for extreme conditions

Gotion Grid systems were developed to operate in environments with high temperatures, sandstorms and exposure to salt fog, common conditions in various regions of Egypt. The technology incorporates solutions aimed at ensuring operational safety, electrical stability and availability during extended operating cycles.

The equipment offers millisecond response capability, allowing for compensation of rapid variations in electricity demand and improving network operation with greater participation of renewable generation.

These features will allow for the optimization of the use of solar energy produced in Benban and provide flexibility to the electrical system to manage peak demand associated with the Zafarana wind farm.

Gotion accelerates the delivery of large-scale energy storage

The company completed the first shipment three months after the agreement was signed, a process that required coordination between the manufacturing, international transport and implementation stages of the project in Egypt.

The start of the delivery represents a significant step forward for the development of energy storage infrastructure in the continent, where these technologies play a fundamental role in integrating larger volumes of renewable energy and improving the reliability of electricity grids.

According to AMEA Power, this collaboration expands opportunities for energy cooperation between China, the Middle East, and Africa, as Gotion continues to expand its energy storage solutions beyond the Asian market.
