Sawgrass LNG & Power announced the completion of the first shore-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply operation at Port Everglades, located in Fort Lauderdale, consolidating a significant advancement in the adoption of marine fuels in South Florida.

The operation was carried out on March 26, 2026, and enabled the supply of the vessel Ilma, belonging to Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. This type of supply, known as LNG shore-to-ship bunkering, represents an energy alternative with a lower carbon footprint within maritime transport.

Logistics for LNG Supply

The LNG supply was developed under interagency coordination involving Port Everglades, the United States Coast Guard (Sector Miami), the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, and REV.

This deployment reflects the level of planning required for LNG bunkering operations, where operational safety and logistical control are determining factors. It also demonstrates the port’s capacity to integrate new energy solutions into its regular operations.

Neil J. Kutchera, Deputy Director of Energy and Innovation at Port Everglades, emphasized that the availability of this lower-emission fuel opens new opportunities for both land-based and maritime operations.

Expansion of LNG as Marine Fuel

Furthermore, this operation strengthens the positioning of LNG as a viable solution within the energy transition of the maritime sector. Its adoption responds to the need to reduce emissions in cruise and cargo vessels while maintaining operational efficiency.

Sawgrass LNG & Power, headquartered in Miami, specializes in LNG supply and integrated gas-to-power solutions in the United States and the Caribbean. The company combines proprietary infrastructure, specialized logistics, and operational expertise to serve industrial, commercial, and transportation markets.

The company anticipates new supply operations at Port Everglades, in line with the growth of LNG bunkering globally.
