Saipem and Eni Promote Priolo Biorefinery in Sicily

Saipem to Build Priolo Biorefinery for Eni with 500,000 Tonnes/Year Biofuel Capacity.

The Italian company Saipem has signed a contract with Eni Industrial Evolution for the development of the new Priolo biorefinery, located in Sicily. The agreement, valued at approximately 700 million euros, covers the execution of a complete Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package.

As planned, the works will extend until the end of 2028, marking a new advancement in the transformation of the Italian energy sector.

Details on the Priolo Biorefinery

The new plant will have a processing capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year. This infrastructure is designed to offer operational flexibility in the production of sustainable fuels, including SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) biojet type and HVO diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil).

Likewise, the project is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing emissions and promoting the use of renewable fuels in hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as aviation.

Strengthening Collaboration Between Saipem and Eni

Furthermore, this contract strengthens the alliance initiated between both companies in 2023 and expanded in 2025, focused on the development of biorefining solutions in Italy.

The scope includes detailed engineering, material supply, and construction of the facility’s main process units, consolidating a long-term industrial collaboration model.
