The Indian company Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) completed the relocation of 44 jack-up rigs before the start of the monsoon season on India’s west coast.
The campaign was carried out with the support of ABL, a consultancy specializing in energy and maritime services, whose work made it possible to complete all maneuvers within the planned schedule.
Between March 15 and May 31, 2026, the platforms covered a combined total of more than 5,500 nautical miles, reaching their assigned locations before the arrival of the adverse weather conditions that characterize the monsoon period.
A logistics campaign to strengthen operational continuity
The mobilization of the platforms is an essential step to maintain the continuity of offshore operations during one of the most challenging periods of the year. Early planning reduces exposure to risks associated with deteriorating weather and helps ensure the units remain ready to resume exploration and production activities once conditions improve.
Likewise, the campaign carried out in 2026 is part of a broader program. From September 2025 to May 2026, ABL took part in 75 additional relocations of platforms located in ONGC’s offshore fields on India’s west coast.
Throughout the operation, the company acted as tow master and marine warranty surveyor, roles aimed at verifying that each relocation met the technical and safety standards established for this type of maneuver.
ABL maintains its technical support for ONGC’s offshore fleet
ABL was appointed by ONGC’s insurers and their consultants to provide marine warranty services for the entire fleet of jack-up rigs and mobile production units operating in Indian waters.
This support includes technical assessments, oversight of towing operations, and verification of the conditions required to carry out platform movements with an adequate level of operational safety.
Activity is also growing in the Middle East
While carrying out the campaign in India, ABL also maintained intense activity in the Middle East. Over the past twelve months, the company took part in more than 750 oil rig relocation operations in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.
Captain Stephen Craig, ABL’s Director of Oil Rig Operations, noted that this period made it possible to reach new levels of activity, both in the number of relocations carried out and in the distance covered and operational performance achieved. As he explained, these results reflect the coordinated work of offshore teams, specialized engineers, and support personnel deployed across different countries.
