The firm MCS Group announces the award and execution of a subsea pipeline installation in Nigerian waters. This work directly supports the expansion plans of the local operator FIRST Exploration and Petroleum Development Company within a complex operating environment.

The work is specifically concentrated in exploration blocks PML 53 and PML 54. Through this deployment, the main contractor Marine Platforms Limited delegated the essential technical assistance to the Abu Dhabi group to structure the integrated gas supply system known as FIGSS. The primary goal of the companies involved is to bolster local hydrocarbon transport logistics capacity through advanced engineering methodologies.

Consequently, the design includes an exact linear extension of 22 kilometers of subsea pipeline with a nominal diameter of 10 inches. Regarding the technical methodology, the implementation of the mechanical interference connection system known as NOV Tuboscope Zap-Lok will be used.

This coupling alternative completely eliminates offshore welding schemes, which accelerates assembly times and ensures the structural integrity of the pipeline against underwater currents.

Furthermore, the offshore execution will be carried out using the so-called modular pipe-lay system operated from the DP3 construction vessel belonging to the main contractor’s fleet.

This operational approach eliminates the need to charter a specialized pipe-lay vessel, resulting in immediate substantial cost savings and a smaller logistical footprint. Likewise, technical coordination and detailed engineering will be distributed bilaterally between the group’s control centers in Cairo and the administrative offices located in Lagos.
