L&T secures EPCIC contract from ONGC for offshore projects in India

L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore (LTEH Offshore), a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, secured a contract from Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to develop the Ratna-I (ADR-I) and NLM-14 offshore projects off India’s west coast.

The award comprises engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) work aimed at expanding ONGC’s offshore infrastructure and supporting increased production from its assets in the region.

According to the classification used by Larsen & Toubro, the order falls within the “large” category, corresponding to contracts valued between ₹2,500 and ₹5,000 crore.

EPCIC contract includes three new offshore platforms

Specifically, LTEH Offshore will be responsible for executing three new wellhead platforms and one risers platform for the Ratna-I and NLM-14 developments.

The scope also includes multiple pipeline segments and subsea cables along with brownfield modifications to offshore facilities already in operation.

The project thus combines construction of new infrastructure with interventions on existing assets. This characteristic requires integrating different engineering areas while offshore field operations continue.

ONGC seeks to increase production capacity and continue developing its established offshore assets off India’s western coast.

The work will incorporate new infrastructure into two developments linked to ONGC’s offshore production.

Parthasarathi Chatterjee, senior vice president and head of L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore, noted that ADR-I and NLM-14 represent important additions to India’s offshore energy infrastructure.

“The ADR-I and NLM-14 developments are important additions to India’s offshore energy infrastructure and demonstrate continued investment to enhance production from established offshore assets,” Chatterjee stated.

The executive also highlighted the complexity of combining new installations with brownfield modifications within fields that remain in operation.

LTEH offshore will apply its EPCIC project experience

LTEH Offshore has in-house engineering capabilities, fabrication facilities, and a dedicated fleet of vessels to develop EPCIC solutions for the offshore oil and gas sector.

Over the past four decades, the company has participated in projects including fixed platforms, pipelines and subsea structures, brownfield upgrades, and decommissioning work.

Its experience spans developments in both shallow and deep water across different international markets.

“These projects combine new offshore installations with brownfield modifications in existing operating fields, requiring careful planning, engineering integration, and precise execution,” Chatterjee explained.

Contract strengthens larsen & toubro’s offshore portfolio

The award expands Larsen & Toubro’s offshore energy project portfolio as ONGC continues allocating investment to development and production enhancement of its existing fields.

Larsen & Toubro is an Indian multinational valued at approximately USD 32 billion that develops EPC projects, high-technology manufacturing, products, and services across different markets.

For LTEH Offshore, the contract will enable application of its integrated engineering and construction capabilities on a project where new platforms, subsea infrastructure, and modifications to existing facilities converge.

Execution of Ratna-I and NLM-14 will be oriented toward supporting ONGC’s long-term production objectives and expanding available offshore infrastructure off India’s west coast.
