The Norwegian state-owned company Equinor has sold 8.07% of its stake in solar energy company Scatec, in a transaction valued at approximately 1.6 billion Norwegian kroner. The transaction was executed at a price of 125 kroner per share, consolidating a strategic move within its investment portfolio.

Following this sale, Equinor maintains an 8.05% stake in Scatec, reflecting a significant reduction from its previous position, which reached 16.12% after several acquisitions made between 2019 and 2023.

Stake in Scatec: Equinor Reduces Its Position

Since entering as a minority shareholder in 2018, Equinor has progressively built its stake in Scatec. The average acquisition price stands at around 80 kroner per share, including dividends, suggesting a relevant return following the recent sale.

Additionally, the company has entered into a 90-day lock-up agreement for the remaining shares, which limits further sales in the short term and provides market stability following the transaction.

Strategic Alliances Remain in Place

Despite the reduction in shareholding, the operational relationship between both companies continues unchanged. Equinor and Scatec will continue collaborating on key solar projects, such as the Apodi and Mendubim assets in Brazil.

These initiatives reflect the shared interest in developing renewable energy in emerging markets, where solar energy continues to gain prominence.

Strategic Adjustment in the Energy Sector

This move is part of a broader asset optimization strategy by Equinor, in a context where major energy companies seek to balance their investments between traditional fuels and clean energy.

The transaction also highlights the maturity of the renewable energy market, where companies adjust their stakes without necessarily abandoning key industrial alliances.
