First, the joint venture Eni Storage Systems began construction of its new industrial complex in Brindisi. This facility will manufacture cells and modules based on lithium iron phosphate technology (LFP). The official ceremony was attended by the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy along with local authorities.

Regarding production capacity, the company projects reaching an annual output of 16 gigawatt-hours by 2030. This operational volume will be divided equally between the new facility and the Seri Industrial plant in Teverola. In this way, the project will supply more than 10% of the battery energy storage systems (BESS) market at the European level.

On one hand, sector estimates anticipate a notable increase in demand for storage technologies within the continent. Projections indicate growth from 36 GWh recorded in 2025 to approximately 138 GWh by the end of the decade. This trend responds to the need to manage the intermittency of renewable generation sources and to stabilize the electrical grid efficiently.

On the other hand, the planning includes a second expansion phase to add advanced processes at the facility itself. Engineers will implement cathode active material production and component recycling management. Likewise, investment in the commercial company Faenix will drive global distribution of finished equipment.

In this regard, Eni’s industrial transformation management highlighted the strategic value of this business to accelerate decarbonization of the energy system. The conversion of former sites designated for polymer storage generates a competitive local supply chain. This scheme safeguards corporate autonomy against markets located outside the European Union.

Finally, Seri Industrial officials emphasized that periods of economic transformation demand bold investments and a shared vision. The model change seeks to replace obsolete activities with sustainable and competitive alternatives. The initiative represents a development opportunity for the region and the country’s productive fabric.
