Technip Energies announced the award of an EPCIC contract for the development of the Coral Norte FLNG project in Mozambique, an initiative that will significantly increase the country’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity and strengthen its presence in the international energy market.
The French company will execute the project in partnership with JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries for Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), an entity comprised of Eni and its strategic partners. This award adds to previous agreements related to the same development and represents over €1 billion in revenue for Technip Energies.
Coral Norte will double the capacity of the Coral complex
The Coral Norte FLNG project will be located in deep waters off the coast of Mozambique and will have a production capacity of approximately 3.6 million tons of LNG per year.
With this new floating unit, the total capacity of the Coral complex will reach approximately 7 million tons per year, strengthening Mozambique’s image among the leading African producers of liquefied natural gas.
Furthermore, the development is part of the strategy to enhance the value of the resources of Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin, one of the most important gas-bearing regions discovered in Africa in recent decades.
A model based on the experience of Coral Sul
Coral Norte has been conceived as an evolution of the Coral Sul FLNG project, the first floating liquefaction facility developed in the offshore block.
This strategy allows for the reuse of engineering knowledge, construction processes, and operational methodologies already proven during the execution of the previous project. As a result, the aim is to reduce risks, optimize schedules, and improve predictability throughout all phases of development.
Likewise, the similarity between both projects facilitates the application of common technical standards related to the composition of the feed gas and the operating conditions of deep water.
Mozambique strengthens its role in the global LNG market
The growth of LNG infrastructure in Mozambique responds to the growing global demand for diversified energy sources and the need to expand the supply available to international markets.
According to Technip Energies, the addition of Coral Norte will help accelerate the deployment of new liquefied natural gas export capacity, supporting energy security goals in different regions of the world.
Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, emphasized that the project reflects the confidence of Eni and its partners in the company’s execution capabilities within the FLNG segment. He also noted that the design-once-build-multiple approach allows for the development of large offshore projects with greater efficiency and more predictable delivery times.
A strategic award for Technip Energies
The new hire reinforces Technip Energies’ image as one of the world’s leading providers of solutions for floating liquefied natural gas projects.
The company has a presence in more than 35 countries and holds positions in areas such as LNG, hydrogen, sustainable chemistry, and CO₂ management technologies. In 2025, it recorded revenues of €7.2 billion and continues to expand its involvement in projects related to the energy transition and global energy supply.
