With the aim of expanding renewable energy alternatives in North America, Baker Hughes and Helmerich & Payne formalized a strategic collaboration focused on optimizing geothermal development in the United States. Through this agreement, both companies will integrate technical capabilities and infrastructure to mitigate operational risks in subsurface exploration. This cooperation seeks to accelerate the transition of projects from the initial evaluation phase to commercial deployment.
The Strategic Alliance for Geothermal Energy
Regarding the distribution of technical responsibilities, Helmerich & Payne will supply a high-performance onshore rig specifically adapted to the demands of geothermal activity. Similarly, Baker Hughes will contribute its expertise in engineering technologies and subsurface evaluation for well planning. As a result of this synergy, clients will gain early access to drilling capacity, reducing both time and costs.
With respect to the implementation timeline in the United States, the companies anticipate that the dedicated rig will commence operations by the end of the current year. Activity will concentrate on geographical regions possessing high potential for subsurface thermal storage. Furthermore, this business model was structured with a scalable approach to ensure the viability of future large-scale projects.
Additionally, Baker Hughes Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services and Equipment, Amerino Gatti, affirmed that this energy source offers clean and reliable baseload generation to meet current demand. For his part, Helmerich & Payne President and CEO, Trey Adams, underscored the corporate commitment to promoting efficient automation and drilling technologies that benefit the region’s environmental sustainability.
