Acta Marine received the CSOV Acta Gemini, its new DP2 dynamic positioning Walk-to-Work construction service operation vessel.
The vessel was built by the Tersan shipyard in Yalova, Turkey, and represents the third vessel in a series of four newbuild units.
The Acta Gemini was designed to support construction, operation, and maintenance activities in offshore wind farms, combining operational capacity, safe access to offshore facilities, and solutions focused on efficiency and sustainability.
Acta Gemini to Operate in Dogger Bank
Following its mobilization, the vessel will begin a long-term charter contract to support the Sofia offshore wind farm, developed by RWE in Dogger Bank, United Kingdom.
With an operational base in Grimsby, the Acta Gemini will provide offshore accommodation and work access services to support the park’s operation and maintenance tasks.
Sofia is one of Europe’s largest offshore wind projects, with a planned capacity of 1.4 GW, which will require specialized vessels to sustain safe and efficient operations throughout its lifespan.
DP2 Vessel for Walk-to-Work Operations
The Acta Gemini is equipped with an advanced offshore access system, designed to safely transfer technicians from the vessel to offshore structures.
The vessel also features a helideck and auxiliary boats, increasing logistical flexibility during maintenance, inspection, and operational support campaigns.
Acta Marine notes that the vessel offers hotel-type accommodation and is prepared to maintain prolonged operations offshore, an essential factor for wind farms located far from the coast.
Methanol Fuel Ready
In line with Acta Marine’s sustainability strategy, the Acta Gemini incorporates dual-fuel main engines, capable of operating on methanol and MGO.
This configuration allows for progress towards lower-emission operations as the availability of alternative fuels evolves.
Acta Marine’s technical specifications also indicate that the vessel has methanol storage capacity and DNV Comfort Class Level 2 accommodation for up to 88 people.
Additionally, its motion-compensated gangway facilitates Walk-to-Work transfers in wave conditions of up to 3 meters, extending operational windows in demanding offshore environments.
Third Vessel in a Series of Four
The Acta Gemini follows the Acta Pegasus and Acta Hercules vessels, which have already been delivered. The fourth unit, Acta Aquarius, is scheduled to join the fleet by the end of 2026.
The series is part of Acta Marine’s strategy to modernize its fleet and respond to the growth of the European offshore wind market. Ulstein highlights that these vessels incorporate the TWIN X-STERN design, with main propulsion at both ends to improve operability, reduce motion, and optimize positioning in demanding conditions.
With the delivery of the Acta Gemini, Acta Marine strengthens its position in the offshore wind farm support vessel segment, providing specialized capacity for large-scale projects such as Sofia.
