Specialized firm ABL has secured a strategic contract with Oil Search (PNG), a subsidiary of Australian company Santos, to oversee the deployment of an FPSO platform in Papua New Guinea.

Operational and Logistical Scope of the FSO Platform

Through this agreement, the company will provide marine warranty services (MWS) and engineering support for the transportation, installation, and commissioning of key components at various international locations.

Additionally, the infrastructure will be located at the Kumul marine terminal as a key element of the Kutubu pipeline system, where it will store crude oil and condensate for subsequent offloading. In this regard, the technical scope managed by the consultancy encompasses multinational operations in India, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom.

Specialists will oversee the loading of pipelines in India, the mobilization of coated pipelines, spools, and pipeline end manifolds (PLEM) in Batam, as well as the loading of the flexible riser in Newcastle.

Likewise, the firm’s Australian division will lead the project, coordinating activities with offices in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the United Kingdom until its anticipated completion in 2028.

For his part, Sujith Mathew, ABL’s engineering manager in Australia, noted that the organization will deploy decades of specialized experience to ensure the safe transportation and installation of the mooring system, pipelines, and vital subsea infrastructure.

Similarly, Tim Field Dodgson, principal marine engineer at the Australian subsidiary, emphasized that the role of the marine warranty surveyor is fundamental to ensuring operations compliant with international standards and mitigating risks in high-value maneuvers.

Finally, this contract materializes following the recent integration of SynergenOG by Aqualis, ABL’s parent company, strengthening its capabilities in process safety and technical risk management within the global energy sector.
