Uranium Energy Corp (UEC), the fastest growing uranium mining company in the U.S., has received approval from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality to increase the permitted production capacity at its Irigaray facility . With this expansion, the facility will be able to produce up to 4 million pounds of U3O8 per year, consolidating its position in the Powder River region.

Uranium production in Wyoming increases with UEC

The Irigaray facility is key to UEC’s strategy, supporting several satellite in-situ recovery (ISR) projects in Wyoming. These projects include Christensen Ranch, which has all the necessary permits to operate.

The plant expansion strengthens current operations and also positions UEC to take advantage of growing demand for uranium driven by the nuclear energy boom in the United States. Major technology companies such as Amazon and Google are investing directly in nuclear energy , recognizing its reliability and ability to generate clean, affordable power.

In addition, the company has already made progress on engineering work to increase Irigaray’s capacity and has acquired key equipment, such as a filter press. Amir Adnani, UEC’s President and CEO, highlighted the importance of this development in a context where nuclear energy is gaining relevance due to its role in decarbonisation .

UEC expands capacity with Stantec and Rio Tinto alliance

Senior Vice President of Operations Brent Berg commented that this development is critical to strengthening domestic uranium production. According to Berg, UEC has estimated resources of more than 62 million pounds of U3O8 in the measured and indicated category in the Powder River Basin, which underscores the company’s potential to increase its production in the near term.

On the other hand, UEC has contracted Stantec, a leading engineering firm, to optimize the process design and expansion of the plant. This is in addition to the recent agreement with Rio Tinto , which will give UEC access to a third production platform in Wyoming , further increasing its production capacity domestically.

With these initiatives, Uranium Energy Corp continues to position itself as a key player in the supply of domestically sourced uranium, at a time when nuclear energy is experiencing a renaissance due to the demand for cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.
