TotalEnergies y Air Products se unen para descarbonizar refinerías europeas

TotalEnergies and Air Products have signed a 15-year agreement for the annual supply of 70,000 tons of green hydrogen from 2030 in Europe. This long-term commitment follows TotalEnergies’ call for tenders for 500,000 tons per year of green hydrogen to decarbonize its European refineries.

What is the partnership between TotalEnergies and Air Products?

Under the terms of the agreement, Air Products, the world’s leading hydrogen supplier, will provide green hydrogen to TotalEnergies’ refineries in Northern Europe from its global supply network. This supply will make it possible to avoid around 700 thousand tons of CO₂ each year. This initial contract is a crucial step for TotalEnergies to reach its goal of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1+2) by 40% by 2030, compared to 2015 levels.

Air Products has invested more than $15 billion in energy transition projects. energy transition projects, positioning itself as a reliable supplier.

This agreement with Air Products is a significant step toward our goal of decarbonizing hydrogen at our refineries in northern Europe by the end of the decade.

Patrick Pouyanné, president and CEO of TotalEnergies, said.

Expansion of collaboration

Additionally, both companies have signed a memorandum of understanding for the supply of renewable energy, which includes a first power purchase agreement (PPA) for 150 MW for a solar project in Texas.

Both companies plan to explore further PPA opportunities in the United Kingdom, Poland and France. This agreement will strengthen the collaboration between TotalEnergies and Air Products, contributing to Air Products’ decarbonization roadmap and aligning with TotalEnergies’ integrated electricity strategy.

TotalEnergies is committed to reduce its carbon footprint in the production, conversion and supply of energy. One of the key strategies is to use green or low-carbon hydrogen to decarbonize its European refineries, which should reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately five million tons per year by 2030.. To this end, the company launched a tender in September 2023 for the supply of 500,000 tons of green hydrogen per year.
