Sirius Shipping has taken a major step towards modernising its fleet by placing an order for four 7,999 deadweight tonne (dwt) hybrid vessels . These vessels, designed for the transport of oil and chemicals, will be built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Dingheng using the latest efficient propulsion technology.
Sirius Shipping opts for hybrid vessels
The new models, an update to the successful Saturnus and Mercurius, will incorporate innovative low-emission technologies and hybrid systems that enable a significant reduction in fuel consumption. The integration of a 420 kWh hybrid battery for peak shaving and a 1,000 kW shore power system will enable the ships to conduct zero-emission operations in ports .
The hard work has paid off and we are very excited. These vessels are a fundamental step towards our vision of being the preferred choice for our customers and society at large.
Jonas Backman, CEO of the company, highlighted
Technological innovation and sustainability
With a design adapted to the most demanding regulations, these vessels will be equipped with an ice class 1A and an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) 40% below the requirements for 2025. In addition, the design, in collaboration with FKAB Marine Design, guarantees the highest standards of safety and energy efficiency.
These vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028 , and with this new acquisition, Sirius continues its commitment to technological innovation and sustainability, moving strongly towards a greener future.
