Sierra Space , a specialist in space and commercial technology, has successfully enhanced its Resilient GPS ( R-GPS ) program. The completion of the Systems Requirements Review ( SRR ) marks progress in its mission to protect military and civil operations by improving GPS resilience to threats such as jamming and spoofing.
The Resilient GPS Program
GPS technology is indispensable for sectors such as navigation, financial markets and logistics. However, the risks of interference and spoofing require robust solutions. The R-GPS program, supported by the United States Space Force, proposes an innovative satellite architecture based on proliferated small satellites, designed to strengthen existing GPS infrastructure.
Since its initial award in September under Congressional “ Fast Start ” authority, Sierra Space has demonstrated an exceptional ability to rapidly respond to national security needs. In just two months, the team completed the SRR, highlighting the agility of its development model.
Sierra Space Vice President of Defense and Space Systems Erik Daehler noted, “The successful Systems Requirements Review of our R-GPS program is a testament to Sierra Space’s technology and a notable commercial milestone with our Department of Defense customers.”
The R-GPS program is a direct response to the demands of the U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command for rapid, cost-effective solutions to emerging threats. Sierra Space ‘s expertise in the rapid design and deployment of small satellites provides a decisive advantage in this field.
In addition to protecting U.S. satellites, the program has the potential to improve global navigation. Lt. Col. Justin Deifel described GPS as an “ essential public service ,” stressing the importance of ensuring its availability even in challenging conditions.
The company reaffirms its leadership in the new space economy, developing advanced solutions that integrate satellite technology, life support and space transportation. With more than 500 successful missions under its belt, the company continues to redefine the role of space technology in everyday life and global security.
