A Chinese company has come up with a revolutionary and innovative idea: the S80, a solar-powered skateboard .
At the Eurobike 2023 fair, the Jiangsu Snail Zhixing Technology company surprised with its innovative electric skateboard. This vehicle has a large solar panel that extends from the handlebars to the front wheel and another that covers the entire base where users are positioned. According to the manufacturer, these solar panels provide all the energy necessary to move drivers from one point to another.
Say goodbye to recharging with this solar-powered skateboard
Unlike conventional electric skateboards that require charging their batteries by plugging them into the mains, the S80 is powered entirely by solar power . In theory, this would allow users to do without traditional electric chargers.
This solar skateboard has a range of 35 km and requires between 35 and 70 W for a full charge, which means 7 to 14 hours of exposure to the sun. Although it may seem like a considerable time, simply parking the skateboard outdoors, at home or at work, will cover much of that period.
Among the not so favorable aspects of this creation is the fact that the almost vertical orientation of the front panel is not the most efficient to obtain maximum solar energy. Also, standing on the ground solar panel probably reduces its effectiveness.
However, it should be noted that the use of electric vehicles like the S80, instead of those powered by fossil fuels, contributes significantly to reducing pollution .
The S80 has a top speed of 25 km/h and its retail price in the United States is $1,400 .
