The clean fuel will be transported through pipelines directly to industries in the region, helping to reduce some 93,000 tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to removing 18,600 cars from the roads.

RWE Generation ’s hydrogen operations director Sopna Sury said: “ With this approval, Wales is leading the energy transition, placing green hydrogen at the heart of renewable innovation .” She added that this development supports the UK’s goal of reaching 10GW of green hydrogen capacity by 2030.

The project is also part of the South Wales Industrial Cluster ( SWIC ), a collaborative initiative that promotes decarbonisation across the region. With this plant, RWE is strengthening its position as a leader in clean energy, while boosting the local economy by creating jobs during the construction and operation of the plant.

Pembrokeshire’s Chief Minister, Henry Tufnell, welcomed the approval of the project, saying it was a sign of Wales’ commitment to innovative solutions to minimise climate change and ensure a sustainable energy future.
