Radian Aerospace completed the first taxiing tests of its prototype flight vehicle, known as PFV01. This vehicle, which promises to revolutionize access to space, is part of the development of the Radian One, the first fully reusable fully reusable space plane with horizontal takeoff and landing capabilities.

The tests, conducted in Abu Dhabi, evaluated the low-speed maneuvers crucial to the vehicle’s takeoff and landing. Radian’s engineering team focused on the vehicle’s stability and control, gathering valuable data that will fine-tune the final design of the Radian One. The PFV01 prototype has the same aerodynamic design as its successor, the AV09, and performed a series of maneuvers that included pitching and short jumps to test its behavior on the runway. In addition, thanks to integrated telemetry systems, the company was able to analyze real-time data that will guide future design decisions.
With these advances, the company plans to initiate a new round of testing from a longer runway, where PFV01 will be able to fly at higher speeds. This process, part of the company’s iterative design approach, will allow them to refine their reusable spaceflight technology, which could completely change how low Earth orbit (LEO) is accessed.
