The Fengmiao I offshore wind farm in Taiwan has closed a significant power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google. This agreement is significant for the wind project because it will be Google’s first in Asia Pacific. With a projected capacity of 500 MW, Fengmiao I will supply long-term renewable energy to support the tech giant’s sustainability goals.
The energy contribution of the Fengmiao I offshore wind farm
Fengmiao I, developed by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) and supported by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), is located approximately 35 kilometers off the coast of Taichung, Taiwan. This offshore wind farm is a key component of the region’s energy transition, aligning with the country’s renewable energy and carbon emissions reduction goals. The construction phase has begun, with turbine installation expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The agreement with Google strengthens the company’s commitment to continue expanding its green energy procurement portfolio. It is the second agreement between Google and CIP , following the acquisition of energy from another offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
According to Thomas Wibe Poulsen, CIP’s Regional Partner for Asia-Pacific, this agreement strengthens the collaboration between both companies, following the 250 MW PPA contract for the Zeevonk Offshore Wind Farm in the Netherlands, which was signed last December 2024. CIP is therefore very pleased to expand the collaboration.
with Google to the Asia-Pacific region.
