Bernabé Esquivel, an entrepreneur from the State of Mexico, has created an innovative product from biomass that he himself has called ” Element E “. This product has the ability to serve as a power source for various battery applications . Currently, it is working on the development of prototypes for its implementation in scooters , laptops, autonomous televisions and other applications.

“The advantage of these new batteries is that they are manufactured from biomass, they can last much longer than traditional batteries,” says Bernabé.

“We are making some prototypes of a Xiaomi Scooter; we want to make an autonomous television screen to present it to Hisense, as well as a laptop for HP”, he commented after participating in the HEINEKEN Green Challenge, an initiative promoted by HEINEKEN México and INCmty, where he was one of the finalists of the 2022 edition with the theme energy efficiency.

The entrepreneur explained that the battery is attached to the back of the television and, instead of being connected to the electrical current, it can be programmed so that its duration is adjusted according to the needs of the client.

“We have already presented the prototype of the biomass project, we went to INEL, since they are in charge of validating and corroborating the loading and unloading time. In this way, we can ensure the approval of Element E and the operation of the patent”, he adds.

He explained that this product is completely natural, biodegradable, recyclable and compostable and stressed that they have all the necessary elements to manufacture these biomass batteries. If any component is missing, they have the ability to create it.

In addition, he mentioned that they already have a working prototype of car batteries, although it is not fully finished yet. These batteries have a capacity of 12 volts and 40 amps.

“You can start the car and keep its charge, it doesn’t turn off, and even if the alternator starts to fail, the battery compensates for that loss of voltage because the car will continue to consume energy,” he said.

“We can now commercialize the battery; however, we lack the budget to do it at a larger, industrial level.”

The Creation of Element E

It all started when Bernabé Esquivel recalled his experience in elementary school, where they learned to generate voltage with lemons, wires, and nails. From that memory, his interest arose in creating a battery with a much longer useful life than traditional ones.

“I focused my mind on positive things and thus the first battery made with biomass, which is now Element E, in honor of my mother, Elssa, was born.”

The first four batteries were manufactured on November 20, 2020.

Since then, they have continued to evolve and fine-tune the formula to the present day, presenting the idea of using “Element E” to create cells and even car batteries.

Esquivel mentioned that they already have fully functional AA batteries , ready to go on the market, but to carry out production at an industrial level, they need additional investment.

“I make a stack every 15 minutes and I can build it like that with everything I need. They have the capacity for 2, 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of life and, even when they die, they generate life as fertilizer for the plants”, he assured.

The entrepreneur explained that he is carrying out research and has already obtained positive results when using plant seeds and fertilizer with “Element E”. With this method, they can speed up the seed germination process to half the normal time, even in conditions of scarcity of water, lack of sunlight, or absence of nutrients in the soil. “It’s like an accelerant, Element E has life, it can help.”

For her part, Josadara Camacho, a partner in the project, added her intention to touch base with Tesla “We would love to be able to do synergy with them because we know that lithium is running out, in addition to the cost and all the effects that it entails, such as the waste that contaminate”.

“We are super-motivated entrepreneurs with this invention that we know is of international stature… the only thing we really need is the financing to be able to move it forward,” he asserted.

For this reason, he pointed out that they are seeking to raise 2.5 million pesos in seed capital to acquire machinery and hire personnel to support them in operations.

“We are working with our own resources and we entered the HEINEKEN Green Challenge to receive support, give vision and scope to our project”, he emphasized.

Finally, the developers of Element E expressed their appreciation for the support in the form of mentoring and guidance provided by the advisors involved in the HEINEKEN Green Challenge initiative. This initiative aims to find entrepreneurs interested in addressing socio-environmental problems in Mexico through innovative solutions.
