Damen Shipyards Group and SAFEEN Group , an entity of AD Ports Group , have made history with their Damen RSD-E Tug 2513. The all-electric vessel has achieved a Guinness World Records title by becoming the most powerful electric tug in the world.

The historic event took place in Khalifa Port , where the tug’s bollard pull reached an impressive average of 78.2 tonnes. This high performance underlines the power and efficiency of electric solutions in the maritime industry. The record-breaking presentation was timed to coincide with ADIPEC , a global forum on energy, highlighting the region’s commitment to clean technologies.
The RSD-E Tug 2513 is the first electric tug to operate in the Middle East, while setting new sustainability standards. With its electric propulsion system, the tug ensures zero emissions from tank to wake, thus addressing environmental challenges without compromising operational capability. Ammar Mubarak Al Shaiba, CEO of AD Ports Group ’s Maritime Group, said: “ This record proves that alternative energy and high efficiency can go hand in hand .”
In addition, the vessel can perform two full operations on a single charge and is quickly recharged in just two hours. This level of operational efficiency represents a breakthrough in sustainable fleet management.
