The City of Chandler, in partnership with Ameresco, has initiated a renewable energy strategy that will save more than $1 million per year in municipal electricity costs. This project marks a key step toward the city’s energy security and efficient resource management.
Municipal commitment to the distributed solar energy project
This plan calls for the installation of photovoltaic systems in 22 public buildings and complexes, including the city hall, fire stations, libraries and water treatment centers. In total, more than 14.5 million kWh per year will be generated, which will cover up to 60 % of the electricity consumption of these public facilities.
The solar technologies will include solar canopies on parking lots, rooftop panels and ground level structures. This configuration allows maximizing the performance depending on the use and location of each installation, increasing the efficiency of the system and ensuring the stability of the power supply.
The financing model includes leveraging the federal Renewable Energy Investment Tax Credit, reducing the project’s upfront financing burden. In the long term, Chandler expects to decrease its exposure to electricity market fluctuations while advancing its sustainability goals.
Ameresco, which specializes in distributed energy solutions, designed a customized proposal for Chandler, taking into account both technical and operational criteria. This synergy seeks to consolidate a replicable model for other cities that aspire to greater energy autonomy.
