Well-Safe Solutions was selected as the lead contractor for the decommissioning of the Apache North Sea Beryl field, expanding an operational relationship that already includes the Forties field. With this new award, the combined scope exceeds 260 wells and places the program among the largest well decommissioning contracts awarded in the North Sea.
The project reinforces the closure activity of mature assets in the region, where operators seek to execute more integrated, safe, and efficient campaigns. In this case, Apache will concentrate platform and subsea well works for Beryl and Forties under a single scheme.
Apache’s Beryl expands the program to more than 260 wells
The Beryl field award is the second contract Apache has granted to Well-Safe Solutions this year. The company is already involved in the decommissioning of the Forties field, another significant asset in the United Kingdom’s energy history.
Furthermore, the new scope includes preparatory subsurface work, well engineering, and project management. Offshore operations will begin at the Beryl Bravo platform wells during the summer, while subsea well decommissioning is scheduled for 2027 as part of a multi-year program.
Archer and NMC Energy join the technical team
To execute the project, Well-Safe Solutions brought in Archer as a provider of platform drilling services and specialized technical solutions. Their participation includes well services, wireline, coiled tubing, and a compact well workover rig.
Likewise, NMC Energy will provide integration, commissioning, and topside decommissioning services. This structure will allow for the coordination of well abandonment tasks, offshore intervention, and facility closure through an integrated technical solution.
Apache commits to integrated execution
The collaborative approach brings Apache, Well-Safe Solutions, Archer, and NMC Energy together into a single work team. The strategy aims to reduce operational interfaces, improve planning, and maintain safe execution in a large-scale campaign.
For Apache, Beryl and Forties represent key North Sea assets. Their orderly closure marks a new stage for fields that have played an important role in British energy production for decades.
Offshore decommissioning with regional significance
The magnitude of the contract confirms the growth of the offshore decommissioning market in the North Sea. As mature fields move toward the end of their productive life, opportunities increase for companies specializing in well abandonment, subsea engineering, workovers, and complex project management.
In this scenario, Well-Safe Solutions consolidates its position as a specialized provider for oil and gas decommissioning campaigns. The Beryl project, combined with the Forties scope, places the company at the center of one of the most significant well closure operations in the region.
