Evonik has expanded its portfolio of chemical solutions with the launch of Ancamine® 2873, an ultra-low emission epoxy curing agent designed for protective and marine coating applications under low-temperature conditions.
This new development addresses one of the sector’s main challenges: maintaining productivity and performance during winter maintenance work. The product enables efficient curing even at temperatures as low as 5°C, ensuring film formation and the early development of mechanical properties.
A functional curing agent for cold and humid conditions
Ancamine® 2873 stands out for its low viscosity and high reactivity, characteristics that facilitate its application via spraying. This results in a uniform and consistent layer, even in high-humidity environments.
Furthermore, the agent offers initial water resistance and solid adhesion on substrates with minimal preparation. These properties allow applicators to work with greater flexibility in the field without compromising coating quality.
In line with regulatory and environmental trends, the formulation of this curing agent allows for the development of high-solids epoxy systems with a significant reduction in volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
The company highlights that this technology directly contributes to the industry’s sustainability goals while maintaining a high level of technical performance in corrosion protection.
Applications in marine and industrial coatings
The product has been designed for use in high-performance protective coatings, especially in sectors where exposure to aggressive environments is constant, such as the marine field.
According to statements from Evonik representatives, achieving a balance between fast curing, corrosion resistance, and aesthetic finish at low temperatures represents a significant technical challenge. In this context, Ancamine® 2873 offers a reliable solution for formulators and applicators.
Finally, Evonik will present this technology at the American Coatings Show (ACS) 2026, where its capabilities will be showcased alongside other advances in low-temperature, high-solids epoxy systems.
During the event, the company will also delve into the development of low-emission technologies applied to maintenance and marine coatings, reinforcing its position in sustainable innovation within the chemical sector.
