Valeura Energy Inc. has announced the successful completion of an infill drilling campaign at the Jasmine field , located on License B5/27, offshore the Gulf of Thailand. This strategic development, which raises oil production to significant levels, marks an important step in the company’s efforts to optimize its asset portfolio.
Over the past seven days, drilling has boosted Jasmine field production to nearly 10,000 barrels per day (bbls/d) before royalties. This significant increase represents 26% higher than previous rates, reaffirming the effectiveness of the new drilling activities.
Valeura President and CEO Dr Sean Guest highlighted the significance of this success, noting that consistent performance in mature fields such as Jasmine helps ensure continued cash flow and supports the company’s strategy to extend the economic life of its assets.
New wells for oil production
The five-well drilling program, including two wells on the Jasmine A platform and three more on Jasmine D, has been successful. The JSD-42 well was drilled in the 250 sand reservoir, reaching a strategic location at the crest of the structure. This well has started producing oil in line with expectations and also tested several secondary targets, opening the door for future developments.
On the other hand, wells JSD-41H and JSD-43H were drilled as horizontal wells within the 680-1 sand reservoir, improving the efficiency of oil extraction from an already productive area. Both wells proved to be effective by finding a high amount of net sand in their respective horizontal intervals.
Future plans
With all five wells now in production, Valeura is in an excellent position to continue evaluating and optimising production at Jasmine. The company has confirmed that the new results will form part of its year-end reserve evaluation, with the aim of achieving a reserve replacement rate of over 100%.
Valeura’s contracted drilling rig has recently commenced a similar program at the Manora field, in Licence G1/48, further reinforcing the company’s strategic focus on developing and evaluating key assets in Thailand.
