Tyczka Hydrogen, a leading European hydrogen specialist, has announced the construction of a modern 5 MW electrolysis plant in the city of Schweinfurt. This innovative project will significantly contribute to the production of green hydrogen, aligning with the growing demand for clean energy solutions in Europe.
A strategic investment for the region
The new green hydrogen production site marks a crucial step forward for Tyczka Hydrogen and the Bavarian region. Thanks to a €5 million grant from the Bavarian Ministry of Economics, the company will strengthen its capacity to offer clean hydrogen to customers in central Germany, helping to decarbonise both mobility and industry.
Tyczka Hydrogen has highlighted that this project is part of the country’s sustainable energy transformation, using electricity from renewable sources such as photovoltaic and wind energy . In addition, the proximity to the connection point of the SuedLink direct current line will facilitate access to offshore and northern German wind energy, which will increase the plant’s efficiency.
Benefits of electrolysis plant
The plant, which is due to go into operation at the end of 2026 , will produce up to 2.2 tonnes of green hydrogen per day – a key supply for both emission-free public transport and heavy commercial vehicles. In addition, a hydrogen filling station will be set up at the industrial port of Schweinfurt, enabling an efficient recharging system for vehicles using hydrogen as fuel.
Thomas Zorn, CEO of Tyczka Hydrogen, said that this investment reinforces their expansion strategy in the hydrogen sector, from production to distribution and practical application.
A step towards decarbonisation
The Schweinfurt plant will benefit the regional economy and contribute to the decarbonisation of the industry. The production of green hydrogen is estimated to reduce CO2 by more than 6,000 tonnes per year compared to fossil fuels . This step reinforces Tyczka’s vision of creating a regional hydrogen value chain, driving sustainability and energy independence.
With this initiative, Tyczka consolidates its leadership in the green hydrogen market in Europe and positions itself as a key player in the fight against climate change.
