50Hertz selected ABL to provide marine guarantee services on Ostwind 4I ts 2 GW marine power connection project located in the German Baltic Sea. The consultancy will be responsible for overseeing the transport and installation of submarine cables and infrastructure, offshore the scope also includes the installation of the marine converter platform and the assets associated with the project.
50Hertz will implement HVDC technology in Ostwind 4
Due to its technical configuration, East Wind 4 it will be the first project to use a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system in the German Baltic Sea the infrastructure is designed to provide a transmission capacity of up to 2 GW. The project will consist of an offshore converter platform and an onshore converter station. These assets will be complemented by a cable route of approximately 110 kilometers with both submarine and onshore sections. This infrastructure will enable the transmission of electricity generated from offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea to the German power grid.
ABL will review Ostwind 4’s maritime operations
Under the contract, ABL will review and approve documentation and technical procedures associated with the operations covered by the marine guarantee. In addition, the company will assess the suitability of the proposed marine resources for the work. ABL will also deploy on-site personnel to observe and approve the operations covered by the guarantee during project execution. This marine work The warranty survey will focus particularly on the transportation and installation activities related to the cables and other marine infrastructure of Ostwind 4.
A 110-kilometer cable route

The executive added that ABL will contribute its independent expertise in marine guarantees and its track record in complex marine energy projects developed in both the Baltic and North Seas. He also indicated that the collaboration with 50Hertz will focus on supporting risk mitigation and the safe implementation of the transmission link. The contracted services will be provided by ABL’s German team based in Hamburg.
