Osisko Development announced that it has obtained the necessary permits under the Environmental Management Act ( EMA ) for its Cariboo Gold Project , advancing its preparation for the start of construction work. This project is located in British Columbia, and represents the mining development of the region.
Strategic permits for the Cariboo gold project
These regulatory approvals granted under the British Columbia Mines Act last November 2024, and now, the current approval, mark the completion of the main regulatory process for the Cariboo project. The authorizations allow the company to move forward with the construction, operation and rehabilitation of the areas included in the scope of the project. This includes activities related to environmental discharge, managed under strict regulatory standards.
Sean Roosen, Founder and CEO of Osisko Development, said: ” These permits put us in a unique position to realize the potential of the project, while maintaining a rigorous focus on environmental sustainability and collaboration with indigenous communities .”
The provincial government highlighted the positive impact of the project on the local economy. Minister of Mines and Critical Minerals Jagrup Brar said Cariboo will create well-paid jobs and open up sustainable economic opportunities for communities and First Nations in the region.
With permits secured, Osisko expects to commence full-scale construction in the second half of 2025, with a target completion date of 2027. Meanwhile, underground and bulk sampling work continues, with an optimized feasibility study scheduled for mid-2025.
The Cariboo Gold Project is shaping up to be one of Canada’s next major large-scale mines and is supported by robust infrastructure and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
