The Dominican Association of the Fuel Industry (ADEIC) emphasized the importance of strengthening collaborations with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to develop joint initiatives that ensure timely supply, quality and competitiveness to achieve the vehicular energy transition through the diversification of energy sources.
These statements were made during the panel entitled “Natural Gas: Ally in the energy transition”, where the vice-minister of internal trade of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), Ramón Pérez Fermín; the president of United Petroleum, Juan Tomás Diaz; the president of Natural Gas Solutions, Pedro Lama; and the AES Panama Natural Gas Marketing Specialist, Federico Cuneo. The panel was moderated by the president of ADEIC, Rosanna Grullón.
Vehicle energy transition: opinions of the participants
Grullón mentioned that from ADEIC they focus on contributing their knowledge on issues related to regulations and best practices to contribute positively to the optimal and cutting-edge operation of the sector, using effective control mechanisms, advanced technology and highly qualified collaborators.
Likewise, Vice Minister Ramón Pérez Fermín expressed that the Government will continue to promote the use of natural gas in the country because it is a friendlier and more efficient fuel , being adequate to support the energy transition . In addition, he stressed that the Government has implemented various initiatives, including the allocation of nearly 100 million pesos through the Banreservas trustee to promote the conversion of fuel cargo transportation vehicles. This is done with the commitment to maintain the transition both in the industry and in mobility.
On the other hand, the president of United Petroleum, Juan Tomás Díaz, stressed that they are betting on the development of natural gas for vehicles as the cleanest energy available commercially , becoming one of the main sources of fuel for industrial vehicle fleets.
Another relevant opinion was that of Pedro Lama, who pointed out that the start of the expansion of natural gas in the country was a great challenge due to the lack of technical preparation and infrastructure, which led them to import the best practices used in other countries in the region, such as Colombia. He also pointed out that “at the beginning, natural gas was a great boom in the country due to its competitive price, resulting in the conversion of vehicles due to the savings represented.”
The AES Panama natural gas marketing specialist, Federico Cuneo, mentioned that in Latin America there are approximately 6 million vehicles that use natural gas, which provides numerous advantages to its users. In addition, he highlighted that vehicular gas has been on the market for more than 60 years.
Finally, from ADEIC they assured that they will continue to contribute significantly to promote energy efficiency in the fuel sector and diversification towards natural gas, for the benefit of the entire population. Its approach is based on applying the best international practices to offer products and services with high security standards.
