Iberdrola has installed the first monopile of its East Anglia THREE project through its subsidiary ScottishPower. This new offshore wind farm is located in the North Sea, more than 60 kilometers off the British coast.

East Anglia THREE project, its largest offshore wind farm

With an investment of more than 4,680 million euros, East Anglia THREE plans to incorporate 95 monopiles, some of them manufactured by the joint venture, Navantia SeanergiesWindar Renovables and the rest by Haizea. The installation of these elements, which reach 84 meters in height and weigh 1,800 tons, sets a record in European offshore wind power. The company Seaway Ventus was in charge of their transport and installation.

Windar Renovables will also manufacture the 95 transition pieces, which are essential to guarantee the stability of the structures. Each turbine of the 14.7 MW wind farm, manufactured by Siemens Gamesa, will contribute to a total generation capacity of 1,400 MW.

In addition, the project promoted by Iberdrola promotes the country’s energy independence and strengthens the growth of the local economy by generating approximately 450 direct jobs in Spain through the construction of monopiles and auxiliary components.

The East Anglia Hub, which integrates three initiatives(East Anglia ONE North, East Anglia TWO and East Anglia THREE), will reach a total installed capacity of 2,900 MW, contributing more than 7.5% to the 40 GW offshore wind target set by the UK Government for 2030.

For more than two decades, Iberdrola has been leading the development of clean energy, promoting a safe, competitive and sustainable business model. With 44,478 MW of installed renewable capacity in 2024, the company is consolidating its position in the sector, allocating more than 15.5 billion euros in its strategic plan, mainly focused on offshore wind power in markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
