Figure 02 , the humanoid robot developed by Figure AI , has demonstrated a remarkable 400% increase in productivity at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, marking a significant advancement in automation in the automotive industry.

The Figure 02 is more than just a robot. With advanced artificial intelligence technology and ergonomic design, this humanoid robot has been proven to perform up to 1,000 placement tasks per day , maintaining millimeter precision even in complex processes such as sheet metal handling. These capabilities have allowed BMW to optimize its production times and maintain high quality standards.

The collaboration between Figure AI and BMW highlights the humanoid’s technical prowess and its potential to take on increasingly challenging tasks in industrial settings. Figure AI CEO Brett Adcock highlighted that the robot will continue to improve thanks to the implementation of real-time data and adjustments to its AI models.

Future plans

BMW and Figure AI have announced the expansion of this initiative. In January 2025, the Spartanburg plant will receive more Figure 02 units , cementing its place on the production line and setting a precedent for the use of humanoid robots in the automotive industry.
