GT Wings moves ahead with £225,000 grant for its AirWing propulsion system

GT Wings’ AirWing technology , designed to transform wind propulsion in the maritime industry, has received a £225,000 grant from the Smart Shipping Acceleration Fund (SSAF), a programme supported by the UK Department for Transport (DfT).

This financing will allow the company to advance in the development of its innovative system, which aims to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector .

AirWing technology drives maritime decarbonisation

The project, which involves collaboration between the University of Bath and Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd, focuses on integrating AI-based self-learning technologies to optimise performance in real time. This development promises to improve fuel efficiency and could also be a key step towards decarbonising merchant ships.

With this support, GT Wings reaffirms its commitment to delivering game-changing solutions for global shipowners and operators, contributing to a more sustainable future for the maritime industry.

This project is part of the UK government’s UK SHORE programme, a £206 million initiative aimed at fostering technological innovation and reducing emissions in the national maritime sector.
