Recycleye: el sistema de gestión de residuos que utiliza Inteligencia Artificial

Recycleye emerges as a pioneering solution with its waste management system, thanks to the collaboration of Victor Dewulf and Peter Hedley, who have integrated artificial intelligence with robotics. artificial intelligence with robotics to identify and sort waste.

This venture, which originated from a modest prototype combining waste and a recycled treadmill, has progressed into an advanced technology that promises to raise recycling rates, setting a precedent in waste treatment.

Innovative waste management system

Dewulf, through his master’s research focused on waste recognition using AI, and Hedley, addressed the challenges associated with the recycling process. His creativity and efforts culminated in the development of advanced technologies for waste identification and sorting, resulting in the founding of Recycleye, a company that aims to commercialize this innovative research.

Located on the assembly lines of recycling facilities, the system analyzes waste using cameras and AI algorithms to detect usable materials. This system is complemented by a robotic arm in charge of sorting, achieving an automated and accurate separation, surpassing traditional mechanical and infrared vision solutions. Its ability to differentiate between types of plastics significantly improves the value of recycled materials and reduces operating costs.

The role of Artificial Intelligence in waste classification

AI plays a crucial role in the accuracy of waste management. Through deep learning, it classifies debris according to its visual characteristics, reaching an unprecedented level of detail. Recycleye’s AI, with accuracy comparable to that of the human eye, can identify specific details of objects, including those traditionally difficult to detect.

Importantly, Recycleye’s AI technology is based on WasteNet, a vast database of billions of images, which allows automated sorting solutions to be tailored to specific needs, whether high-volume or more targeted.

Recycleye used in Spain

Urbaser a leading environmental solutions company, has announced its investment in Recycleye’s automated sorting technology, which will be implemented in Algimia, Valencia, in the first half of this year. This technology, which uses computer vision for the detection and automatic classification of waste, represents a significant advance in waste management in Spain.

The system not only sorts the waste, but also collects data on the identified objects, providing real-time analysis on the composition of the waste. With the help of a robotic arm the system selects objects with better-than-human precision, operating continuously. This investment in AI-based automation promises greater separation of recyclable materials, moving toward the goal of minimizing waste sent to landfills and maximizing recycling.
