Ecopetrol announced the discovery of 49° API gas and light oil in the Liria YW12 exploratory well, located in the town of Aguazul, Casanare, marking the start of a new hydrocarbon field in the Piedemonte Llanero, in Colombia.
The well is 100% Ecopetrol and in the initial tests around 30 thousand barrels of oil equivalent (oil and gas) were produced. The company plans to drill another appraisal well in the area and, if it is productive, declare the short-term commerciality of the Recetor West field, while work progresses to reveal the size of the discovery. “We are pleased to announce this discovery in the Piedemonte Llanero, where we already have significant gas production that leverages our energy transition strategy. Once the exploratory success carried out directly by Ecopetrol has been confirmed and thus the consolidation of a new hydrocarbon production field has begun, we will carry out a series of actions to expedite the start of its production and the delimitation of this finding that will contribute to increasing reserves of the company,” said Felipe Bayón, president of Ecopetrol in a statement.
The discovery of light oil allows Ecopetrol to balance its current crude oil portfolio and have national production for international markets, and its proximity to the Cupiagua and Cusiana fields allows the company to take advantage of its oil infrastructure to facilitate its development.
