This advancement will allow the company to refine greater volumes of oil from the Permian Basin , benefiting operations in the United States Gulf Coast, and integrating synergies with its other refinery in Pascagoula.
The modernization of this Chevron facility was important for the company. The refinery was acquired in 2019, and with this project it plans to optimize its value chain and respond to the growing demand for fuels in the market. With this initiative, the production capacity of refined products, such as jet fuel and diesel for export, will be strengthened. In addition, the new adaptations of the Pasadena refinery positively impact the efficiency of operations and processes.
The LTO ( Light Shale Oil ) project aims to improve the reliability and safety of the facility. In the words of Chris Cavote, President of Chevron Manufacturing: “ This refinery now tightly integrates our upstream and downstream businesses as we aim to optimize the value chain. ” The work performed during this project has been remarkable, with more than 4 million hours worked safely by employees and contractors.
The gradual start-up of the project is planned for the first quarter of 2025, according to estimates by experts who supervise all the refinery units to verify that they operate at full capacity, complying with the specifications of the products developed.
Chevron has also expressed its commitment to long-term sustainability, investing in the Pasadena refinery to ensure its future success while contributing to the economic well-being of the local community. Tifanie Steele, general manager of the refinery, highlighted the importance of the investment for the long-term success of the facility and for generating a continued positive economic impact in the region.
