CNOOC Limited has made significant progress in exploring deep Paleozoic rock formations in the Beibu Gulf Basin in the South China Sea . The company, recognized as the largest offshore hydrocarbon producer in China, confirmed the discovery in the exploration well WZ10-5-1Sa, which revealed a 283-meter production zone.
Key discovery in oil and gas exploration
The WZ10-5-1Sa well, drilled to a total depth of approximately 4,840 meters, demonstrated high production potential. According to test results, the well generates approximately 13.2 million cubic feet of natural gas and 800 barrels of crude oil per day. This discovery reinforces the role of the Beibu Gulf as a key region for hydrocarbon exploration and production in China .
Resource expansion and energy development
Xu Changgui, chief geologist of CNOOC Limited, said that this discovery confirms the exploration prospects in the Paleozoic granite buried hills.
The Weixinan sinkhole in the Beibu Gulf Basin is one of the most explored areas offshore China. In recent years, we have made progress in the study of reservoir formations and the development of specialized technologies.
Xu pointed out.
For his part, the company’s CEO Zhou Xinhuai stressed the importance of this discovery for the stability of energy supply. He said that they have made large and medium-sized oil and gas discoveries in several offshore buried hills and that this new discovery contributes to the expansion of their resource base and the economic and social development of the region.
Impact on the industry and the future of exploration
The successful exploration of deep rock formations in the Beibu Gulf basin represents an opportunity for future projects in China. Continued investment in exploration and drilling technology will make it possible to fully exploit these resources, ensuring a stable and efficient energy supply.
With this development, CNOOC Limited strengthens its position as a leader in offshore exploration and opens up new possibilities for energy development in the region.
