From Houston, Texas during the ASNT 2023 annual conference, Richard Blaser from Inspenet had the pleasure of interviewing, President of EquipCon. A company that goes beyond being just a supplier of non-destructive testing (NDT) equipment.

EquipCon: More than a Supplier

Jeff explained that ASNT is the most important event for them, as it not only attracts their customers, but also promotes NDT globally. EquipCon, rather than focusing on advertising, reserves its budget for its annual “Industry Appreciation Party,” where they celebrate all of their members, including competitors.

Strategic Alliances for Greater Impact

One of its most prominent partnerships is with ZChem, its partner in India. ZChem specializes in manufacturing penetrant materials and magnetic particles, essential for fluorescent and visible penetrant inspections. Jeff shared how they put ZChem’s materials to the test and how the results exceeded their expectations, allowing them to bring these products to the US with QPI approval.

A Variety of Solutions

EquipCon is proud to offer a wide range of NDT solutions, one of which is CoreNDT, which provides high-quality ultrasound equipment and cables. Echo Ultrasonics, meanwhile, manufactures a variety of ultrasonic couplers, providing flexibility and performance to inspectors. In addition, EquipCon works with Danatronics, a manufacturer of thickness gauges and flaw detectors, and NortonCraft, which develops solutions for resonance inspection and hard spot detection.

Inspection Innovation

One of the most exciting innovations presented by EquipCon is its ultrasonic inspection cart for plates, designed to inspect plates of different thicknesses in an automated manner. They also highlighted EMAT (Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer) technology that eliminates the need for ultrasonic gel, making it perfect for inspections at high temperatures or on difficult surfaces.

The Future of EquipCon

Jeff shared their future plans for EquipCon, including expanding to Las Vegas for ASNT next year with new equipment on display. He also noted that they are looking to recruit a younger generation of employees and representatives to adapt to the changing needs of the industry.
