During the 20th edition of the Latin American Society of Maritime Operators (SLOM) conference, held at the Convention Center of the Enjoy Hotel, Inspenet had the honor of interviewing Rodrigo González, CEO of Grupo HB, a Mexican company that has become a reference in the operation and maintenance of SPM buoys in Latin America.

Expanding Horizons: HB Group’s Impact on the Latin American Maritime Industry

With over 37 years in the market, HB Group has consolidated itself as the only company in Latin America authorized by manufacturers to perform maintenance on single-point mooring (SPM) buoys. This achievement, which has earned them international recognition, is the result of decades of hard work, innovation, and specialized focus on maritime infrastructure.

Rodrigo González explained the company’s family origins, founded in Monterrey in 1987 by his father. Although the city has no coastline, HB Group has proven that dedication and commitment can overcome any challenge. The company began with port infrastructure projects and today leads the sector in the operation and maintenance of fuel discharge systems in Mexico.

During the interview, González highlighted how his company gained the trust of both SPM buoy owners and international manufacturers, establishing strategic partnerships that have enabled their expansion across Latin America. Currently, HB Group is working on significant expansion projects, with agreements underway that will allow them to export their expertise to new markets in the region.

One of the key pillars of HB Group’s success is its focus on quality, with international certifications and the implementation of OCIMF standards that ensure safety and efficiency in their operations. Over the course of 37 years, the company has safely handled the discharge of over 12,000 vessels without incidents or spills, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to safety.

Rodrigo González shared his experience at the SLOM 2024 conference, describing it as an essential platform for exchanging ideas, networking, and presenting innovative projects in the oil industry. The conference has allowed HB Group to strengthen relationships with key players in the sector and showcase the talent and expertise the company has cultivated for more than three decades. With a team of approximately 250 employees, HB Group is looking ahead with ambitious growth and expansion plans in Latin America, always maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety in SPM buoy operations.
