At the recent AMPP conference, Osama Hamza, the Innovation Director of ROCKWOOL Technical Insulation, unveiled CR-Tech, a groundbreaking addition to the Stone wool insulation product line. This new product, PS 965, integrates a corrosion inhibitor directly into the insulation material, representing a significant milestone in the fight against Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI).

A Dual-Defense Strategy Against CUI

ROCKWOOL’s introduction of CR-Tech into its Stone wool insulation offers a dual-defense mechanism against CUI. With superior water repellency technology already in place to prevent water ingress, CR-Tech adds a second layer of protection. This corrosion inhibitor activates upon contact with water, providing an essential safeguard for the underlying pipes, even if water penetrates the insulation system due to external damage or joint leaks.

Enhanced Performance and Durability

Hamza emphasized the versatility of Stone wool, noting its superior performance across multiple domains including fire resistance, acoustic dampening, thermal insulation, and now, enhanced corrosion mitigation. The introduction of CR-Tech not only maintains these benefits but also amplifies the material’s effectiveness in preventing CUI, a persistent challenge in the industry.

Superior to Other Hydrophobic Materials

Compared to other hydrophobic insulation materials with inhibitors, CR-Tech stands out for its temperature stability and compliance with industry standards, including ASTM D189. Testing has demonstrated that CR-Tech can improve CUI mitigation performance by up to five times, making it an all-encompassing solution that is easy to handle and install.
