GE Vernova prueba turbinas con hidrógeno puro para reducir emisiones

GE Vernova has made a significant breakthrough by validating its 100% hydrogen-capable Dry Low NOx (DLN) technology for its Class B and E industrial gas turbines. This development promises to transform power generation by eliminating diluents such as water and reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions to less than 25 ppm, a key milestone in the transition to cleaner energy sources.

Flexibility and efficiency in combustion with pure hydrogen

The test campaign, conducted in South Carolina, demonstrated that the DLN system operates efficiently with natural gas -hydrogen blends, as well as pure hydrogen. Through a micromixer-based design, the technology improves operational stability and also extends maintenance intervals and optimizes the heat rate in combined cycles by 4% to 7%.

With an installed base of more than 2,800 B- and E-class turbines, GE Vernova continues to lead the way in sustainable electrification . This technology eliminates the use of water as a diluent and provides exceptional operational flexibility , crucial for industries requiring continuous and reliable power supplies.

Continuous research and development

The prototype, tested under real pressure and temperature conditions, represents the result of two decades of research. The collaboration with the US Department of Energy and the implementation of micromixers reinforce the company’s commitment to innovation and reducing the environmental impact of electricity generation .

This breakthrough reaffirms GE Vernova’s position as a leader in combustion and decarbonization technologies. The company plans to commercialize this system in 2026, providing a solution that balances sustainability and operational efficiency, marking a crucial step on the path to a cleaner energy future.
