This forecast is supported by recent records showing a record daily consumption of 133 million liters of gasoline, surpassing even Iran’s total production, set at 110 million liters per day last year.
Jalil Salari, director general of the NIORDC, warns of the risk of an eventual shortage if the consumption trend continues to rise, which could force the country to rely on gasoline imports.
Although expansion of Iran’s refining capacity had been conceived with projects such as the PGS star splitter and the Siraf project at Assaluyeh, steadily growing domestic demand has prompted the revival of these plans. In addition, the addition of new production trains is expected to significantly increase gasoline production capacity in the coming years.
