Blue Energy Africa, a local company specializing in sustainable energy infrastructure, has signed a twenty-year contract with Borbet South Africa (SA) to obtain energy from renewable sources. Established in 1962 by Peter Wilhelm Borbet, this family-run company has five locations in Germany, as well as a presence in Austria and South Africa, specifically in Gqeberha.
Borbet SA and its commitment to green energy
Borbet SA is dedicated to the manufacture of light alloy wheels, used by renowned car manufacturers such as Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Isuzu.
This energy agreement is expected to contribute to the reduction of Borbet SA’s environmental impact, while ensuring energy savings and minimizing possible losses during electricity outages.
The solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage system (BESS) solution at the company’s production facility in the Eastern Cape will consist of over 5 MWp of solar PV panels installed on rooftops, garages and storage areas final products. This solution will be integrated with a 4 MWh BESS power supply and generator to ensure operational resilience.
Blue Energy focused on reducing emissions
It is estimated that this solution will allow a maximum power generation capacity of 5,350 KWp, with additional battery energy storage of 4,000 kWh, while generating more than 7,000,000 kWh per year and reducing carbon emissions by 6,000 tons per year.
Brenton van Vuuren, CEO of Borbet SA , says the first phase of the project will reduce the company’s dependence on Eskom-generated electricity by 8%, ensuring business continuity and productivity.
This approach to decarbonization benefits the environment and projects a positive image for the company, strengthening its reputation and positioning it as a leader in sustainable practices in the industrial sector.
