The International Liquid Terminals Association (ILTA) 2024 conference continues to be a leading event for innovation and networking in the industry. During the event, Stephanie Nolan, Square Robot’s Business Development Manager, shared the company’s latest developments in robotic tank inspection technology in an interview with the Inspenet team.
Safe, Efficient, and Innovative: Square Robot’s Submersible Inspections
Square Robot specializes in robotic submersible tank inspections, offering a safe and efficient alternative to traditional inspections that require workers to enter tanks.
“We use our submersible robot to perform API 653 inspections, obtaining about four UT data points per millimeter,” Nolan explained. This year, Square Robot has expanded its capabilities to include internal and external floating roofs, demonstrating its commitment to continuous innovation.
International Reach, Streamlined Operations: Square Robot’s Tank Inspection Services
Square Robot, which has its service shop in Houston and manufactures its robots in Boston, offers its services internationally. “We’ve worked in about eight, maybe nine countries at this point, including Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and Canada,” Nolan noted. The company has been able to streamline the process of getting its equipment overseas, being primarily self-sufficient and facilitating tank inspections for its customers.
In addition to the efficiency and accuracy of their inspections, Nolan highlighted the benefits of using robots instead of humans for tank inspections. “We want to be a tool in the toolbox. Not every tank is suitable, but where you can substitute a robot instead of putting humans in a tank, I think it makes sense,” Nolan said.
In terms of data turnaround, Square Robot averages about two weeks to complete API 653 reports, although they can deliver reports in less than a week depending on workload and tank conditions.
