Within the framework of the LatinCORR & InterCorr 2023 conference, Francesco Solari, CEO of Inspenet, had the pleasure of speaking with Rafael Rengifo, director of Midstream at the company Becht, who offered a valuable perspective on the need to guarantee the integrity of ducts and pipelines during the energy transition.
Purpose of changes in the world
The conference, which brought together companies, colleagues and consultants from all over Latin America, provided a space to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the energy transition in the region. Rengifo highlighted the importance of the opening of the conference, where the need for organizations like AMPP to adapt and transform to serve the purpose of the changes that are being experienced in the world was addressed.
Presentation by Rafael Rengifo at the conference
During his presentation titled “Windows of integrity for ducts or pipelines in the energy transition”, Rengifo addressed the need to identify safe operating ranges for existing infrastructure, avoiding impractical and costly investments. His approach is based on the use of existing processes and materials in the industry, instead of looking for solutions that are not viable from a technical and economic point of view.
Transport and logistics in industry
Rengifo also emphasized the critical role of the transportation and logistics sector in this accelerated energy transition. He considered this link in the chain to be the weakest and requires special attention due to the age of the infrastructure and the increased risks associated with exposure to the public. Additionally, he noted that the investments needed to adapt this infrastructure are significantly higher than initially estimated, raising questions about future costs for consumers once subsidies decrease.
BECHT: Facilitator of change
As director of Becht, Rengifo highlighted his company’s role as a global facilitator of change, thanks to his extensive knowledge and experience in different regions of the world. Becht offers benchmarking services and is committed to collaborating with its customers and operators to address the challenges of the energy transition in the transport and logistics sector.
The Inspenet community, to which Rengifo expressed his appreciation for their contribution to knowledge exchange, as well as the AMPP community, will benefit from the ideas and proposals presented at the conference. Rengifo invited attendees to continue carrying the torch of progress in the industry, especially those who are students, professors and others interested in the field.
“We are Inspenet the only network where professionals like Rafael come to share their knowledge and turn it from their strength into the strength of everyone.” Francesco added.
