Eddyfi Technologies reaffirmed its position as a leader in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) at AMPP 2024, where Frederic Reverdy, Senior Application and Products Engineer, presented the company’s inspection technologies, such as array ultrasound, MFL technology and eddy currents, designed to detect and mitigate corrosion in critical industries, including phased. With a strong presence at the event, Eddyfi demonstrated its commitment to advancing inspection solutions for aerospace, energy, mining, power generation, and transportation sectors.

MFL technology: A standout corrosion inspection solution

Among the cutting-edge technologies showcased, Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) technology emerged as a key highlight. MFL is a powerful screening method used for corrosion detection that offers significant advantages over traditional techniques. Unlike ultrasonic phased array, MFL does not require couplant, making it an efficient and versatile solution for rapid surface scanning.

The MFL system works by applying a strong magnetic field to a metal component. Sensors detect variations in the magnetic field caused by corrosion or material loss, allowing for fast and accurate defect identification. One of the primary benefits of this technology is its ability to scan through coatings up to a quarter-inch thick, eliminating the need for direct contact with the surface. Additionally, this technique can detect corrosion down to 1 mm in depth, providing a reliable and high-speed solution for asset integrity assessments.

It’s a screening tool that doesn’t need any coupling like phase array. You can go through about a quarter inch of coating, and you’re going to scan really fast like this, and you’re going to be able to detect any corrosion down to one millimeter.
