Saipem wins contract to expand gas pipelines in Sakarya

The Italian company will develop 153 km of subsea pipelines connecting the new Goktepe field with the Sakarya facility in the Black Sea.

Saipem has been selected by Turkish Petroleum OTC to lead a new expansion phase of the Sakarya gas field, located in the Turkish sector of the Black Sea. The contract, valued at approximately $425 million, reinforces the company’s strategic positioning in the Eurasian country’s energy market.

With an estimated duration of two and a half years, this project is part of the third phase of the Sakarya field development and incorporates additional activities that will scale up domestic natural gas production.

153 km of gas pipelines at 2200 meters depth

The contract covers engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) services for 3 new pipelines with a combined length of 153 kilometers. These will connect the newly discovered Goktepe field, at a depth of 2200 meters, with the existing Sakarya Phase 3 facilities, located 80 kilometers away.

The execution of the work will be carried out with the Castoroneone of Saipem’s flagship units for deepwater pipelaying. The offshore campaign is scheduled for the second half of 2027, in continuity with the contract previously signed in September 2025 for the same field.

The development of the Sakarya field and the Goktepe field is in line with the Turkish government’s objectives to reduce its dependence on foreign energy by exploiting its own resources in the Black Sea.
